Markets of London

16 of us set off in lovely winter sunshine and explored the South Bank sampling coffee and cakes at Borough Market on the way. It was good to see Lodon and its river in a good light and the perennial conversation of old versus new came up Are the new monumental office buildings to be admired or hated? Its a pity to see the threatening presence of theTower of London diminished by their overwhelming stature but London is a city constantly evolving thanks to its residents and much enhanced by the immigrants who have been coming here for centuries as we saw walking up Brick Lane.

Notes:

Markets are a special part of all cities- to me any way- providing a link between town and country and a venue for selling your wares to a local population and never more so than at this time of year.Think of Dickens, geese being walked to market etc
I love the buzz they provide, watching people picking that extra goodie that will make all the difference to the Christmas feast, the delight of finding a present that is not mass produced, carrying trees home over their shoulders. All good fun
