Ridgeway
It was the most beautiful day , chilly at first , the sky was very blue and the sun shone
The Harrow at West Ilsleywas more than welcoming , the food was mostly delicious.
We started and ended the day on the Ridgeway, going through some woods , bridleways, copses, lanes, a field of young thistles, and one side of the gallops
The views were magnificent on occasions. It was good to get slightlybeyond our usual Sunday boundaries into the Berkshire Down
There are no suitable trains, so by car: Take M4 to come off at exit 13. Take A34 North. After approximately 7 miles, take the second turning signed West Ilsley which brings you to the Car Park. Google Maps recognises Bury Down Car Park. The journey time is just under 1 1/2 hours.
The morning walk is approximately 6 miles (roughly 3 hours), mainly flat with some medium inclines - could be muddy. Old Down to West Ilsey. The afternoon walk is 2.5 miles, taking us back to the start point. There are two shorter return paths after lunch if preferred.
Lunch: is booked for 12.45 at The Harrow in West Ilsley. Menu below. I need people's selection by end of Sunday, 8 October
