Burnham –on –Crouch Station ticket barrier.
Distance: 
Approx. 9.5 miles. It would be possible to cut the walk short after approx. 4 miles and to catch a train to London, back to Burnham or just to re-join the main party at North Fambridge where the walk ends.

Travel: 

Train Liverpool Street 9.22, Stratford 9.29 to Southend -on-Sea . Change at Wickford for Burnham –on –Crouch. Arrive Burnham 10.31. Freedom Passes and Senior Rail Cards apply- Day return ticket (approx. £12 using both.)

Route: 

This walk is mostly, though not entirely, along the sea/river wall. Therefore pretty flat and level except for one short hill slope. It could be a bit exposed in poor weather =so bring rain gear if rain forecast.

Terrain - River Estuary amid the Essex Marshes –reminiscent of ‘Great Expectations. ‘

Lunch: 

Bring your own picnic lunch or snack. At the end of the walk, for those who wish, we can enjoy a drink and perhaps some hot or cold snacks, at The Jolly Sailor, North Fambridge, before catching a train back to London. Trains run hourly at 21 minutes past the hour and take approx. I hour to Liverpool Street –changing again at Wickford
