Walking the Line
This walk was a true democratic walk and all the better for it. The so-called leader managed to lose 75% of the group before even starting but thanks to the initiative the ‘lost’ were reunited with minimum loss of sense of humour and we all set off. Another poor decision lead to missing the designated path and a muddle with further discussion at 3 Mills island but finding a Tracey Emin sculpture restored some faith in the walk and we proceeded. Codeys dock was dry for coffee so we continued with a decision to take the DLR to the Royal Victoria docks to take the Emirates cable car. Further challenges sorting out platforms again democratically resolved .
The cable car proved a great success and showed us you are never too old for a new experience. Wonderful views of the river and London and Kent south of the river Lunch at the O2 with 21 food outlet options to choose from Quite overwhelming.
After lunch the sunshine prompted a swift walk along the Thames path and a journey home on the river bus And your leader missed it as she couldn’t get her card to work!!! C’est typique
Not sure how many art works we saw but it ended up great fun thanks to the camaraderie of the group
Travel out- Stratford is on the Jubilee line and Central line
Return Various options Underground or river boat from North Greenwich
Route See Line map available on line the-line.org/visitor-info We will walk from the Olympic Park to Cody’s Dock and then make a decision as to how to proceed, walk , take public transport to miss out on traffic to the Royal Victoria Docks and cross the river via the Emirate cable car or public transport direct to North Greenwich
Morning coffee Cody’s dock to discuss the above options
Lunch Various cafes on route Possibly pubs in North Greenwich
This is a London walk which should reduce the mud risk and takes us to areas we have never seen (or not often) and broaden our minds. It will be a truly democratic walk as options of route, cafes etc are many
It involves about 3 hours of walking, starting at Stratford station and ending at North Greenwich, with multiple choices on how to achieve the transfer from north to south of the Thames with the DLR and /or the United Emirates cable car among the options
The Line is London’s first dedicated public art walk. Connecting three boroughs (Newham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich) and following the Greenwich Meridian, it runs between the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2. The Line features an evolving programme of art installations (loans and commissioned works), projects and events, illuminating an inspiring landscape where everyone can explore art, nature and heritage for free
