Windsor Great Park
Storm Eunice! The walk planned for Saturday 19 February had to be cancelled. Although storm Eunice was on the Friday it turned out that Windsor Park and the Saville gardens were closed over the weekend to clear up the debris. A great shame as Sue Shaw had done careful recces and I think it would have been an excellent walk. However all is not lost, we will fit it into the programme somewhere.
I then twisted Ed Smith’s arm and persuaded him to do his city statues, buildings and monuments walk for which we had been looking for a date. see separate report
Take the M4 out of London, turning south on to the M25 at Junction 4b. Leave the M25 at Junction 13 and take the A308 towards Egham. There you take the A30 uphill towards Englefield Green, passing the Royal Holloway campus on your left. Look out for brown signs for “The Royal landscape” or “The Savill Garden”. The postcode for satnavs is TW20 0XD
This is a figure of eight walk, a circuit round Virginia Water before lunch and in the afternoon a walk to the Copper Horse at the south end of the Long Walk. It is mainly on made-up paths and fairly flat, with one or two slopes in the Valley gardens and up to the Copper Horse.
The Savill Garden Kitchen. This is a large informal table-service restaurant with no advance bookings. It is licensed, and the lunchtime menu includes pizza, salads and a range of mains. Or you can just have soup and a salad. See menu on their website https://www.benugo.com/application/files/1916/3699/3092/Savill_Garden_Ki....
If anyone wants to drive and meet the group for lunch that would be possible but please let Sue know!
