Cockfosters to Enfield Lock
25 -21 members, 2 guests , 2children and not counting 2 dogs -of us started off under a bright early winter blue sky. There was a happy chatter 'who would have thought the weather could be so wonderful' (it had been raining heavily at 7am) 'didn't know there was so much lovely countryside so close to London' a number of Cockfoster jokes (ask Martin) 'who brought the children' (Andy) and after lunch 'what a brilliant pub'
So many thanks to Sophie and her friend Ian for a successful walk
Out-Piccadilly Line to Cockfosters, return from full walk Enfield Lock station, half hourly trains to Liverpool Street. Or from Turkey Street 2 miles before end of walk, Overground, half hourly with ?replacement bus.
This is an ideal winter walk walking through cemeteries, splendid forests, country parks and wide open meadows and farmland. It starts at Cockfosters (good toilet facilities), a fine pub Thé Rose and Crown at Clay Hill with a hearty Sunday lunch on the menu. Return to Stratford and Liverpool Street. The morning walk is two and a half hours plus and less than two hours after lunch.
The Rose and Crown at Clayhill.
