Gomshall in the Surrey Hills
A select 7 enjoyed a coldbut bright spring day walk through the Surrey hills appreciating the promised change in season
Travel
Two train options;
Train from Waterloo 8.57. This is the Portsmouth Harbour train which does not stop at Clapham Junction. 1 change, arrive Guildford at 9.32 and change for 9.37 train to Gomshall arriving at Gomshall at 9.52.
Or Train from Clapham Junction 8.57. This is the Frome train 2 changes, arrive Woking at 9.15 and change for 9.25 train to Guildford arriving Guildford at 9.32 and change for 9.37 train to Gomshall arriving at Gomshall at 9.52.
Return trains 15.52 and 17.01 (A bit of a gap between trains and more likely we’d be on the 17.01) You might be persuaded to drive or seek lift.
By car
A3 and use Sat Nav to Gomshall Station GU5 9NU
Parking free on Station Approach and Station car park
The walk
From Gomshall we walk over farmland, tracks and woodland to Abinger Common and through the Wotton Estate to The Wotton Hatch.
After lunch we proceed over to Deerleap Wood and Abinger Roughs to return to Gomshall
Morning 5 miles fairly strenuous with some steep ascents.
Afternoon 3 miles much easier.
There are some climbs so not suitable for slow walkers
