North Downs Way- Oxted to Otford
Well I am not sure about the democratic leader approach to these walks as our so-called leader managed to make a complete mess of this walk resulting in the NDW walk being converted into the Greensands Way to Westerham. Fortunately the 2 brave walkers who elected to join me were very patient and forgiving and it was a lovely walk
As a result and having learned from one's mistakes we will be repeating the walk in August
Claphm Junction 9.28 arrives Oxted 10.01
The route has some climbs and has the noise of the M25 to start but this should be lost fairly early on. It takes it various points of interest including crossing the Meridian from East to West and Chevening
Start at Oxted TRAVEL train from Clapham Junction departs 9.28 or 9.58 for freedom pass users arrives 10.01 Depending on numbers we could walk to start takes (about 25 mins ) or take a taxi
We then walk for about 2 hours to A233 where one can leave for Westerham Bus 246 2/hr trains to London Victoria
A further walk from here for 1 ½ hrs to Knockholt Pound where there is a further opportunity to get a bus to Knockholt station and trains to Charing Cross
After this the trail crosses the M25 to Dunton Green and a further railway station or not much further to Otford
Refreshments There are various pubs on the way but all a bit of a detour so I would suggest packed lunches
