Puttenham Common

the weather was less than encouraging when 17 intrepid souls and a dog gathered on Puttenham Top Car park to begin this walk Skies were grey, rain was ever present even though kept seemingly at bay by the wind that swirled around us But spirits were high and the strong motivation to walk Christmas excess proved to be a strong bond
And I am pleased to report that 6 hours later spirits still seemed high as we returned to the car park despite a rather muddy walk through the wooded slopes of Surrey Spirits were maintained by the excellent hospitality of the Witthies Pub and the sun which came out as promised in the afternoon allowing a blissful walk with panoramic views of the South Downs along sandy tracks back towards the cars
The day reinforced once again for me the may reasons why I like walking. Good Companions, improvement of psychological well being by de-stressing with exercise, coping with weather, the countryside and the joy of a hot bath and someone else cooking dinner when I get home Thanks Nick
