Chiltern Escarpment and Chequers
A very delightful walk through wonderful varied countryside taken at a very gentle pace, greatly enhaanced by annecdotes on 'my time at Chequers' by one of the group
By car only.
Access to the Coombe Hill car park is off the A 413 between Great Missenden and Wendover. Driving north from Great Missenden look out for The Firecrest Inn on L. Soon after it, take next left turn onto by-road signposted to Dunsmore village.
Warning -take care it is a very narrow road.
Car park about 2 miles on R.
The morning walk to lunch will be approx. 7 miles but we should not need to rush and can take a break midway to explore Hampden House and Church –externally only. The afternoon walk will be shorter at about 3.5 miles!
A circular walk using parts of the Ridgeway, Chiltern, Icknield and South Bucks pathways. Points of interest Coombe Hill, ‘Chequers’, Tumulus at Whiteleaf Hill, Grimm’s Ditch, Hampden House, Church at Little Hampden and of course the views from the Chiltern Hills
The Plough at Cadsden, has been selected but it will mean a slightly later lunch –at 2.0pm. For those who cannot wait –bring a mid- morning snack!

The pub has agreed that if you prefer you can eat your own sandwiches on picnic tables if you buy a drink at the bar.

Undulating but two or three moderate climbs and descents. On our recce walks it has been both quite muddy and frozen ground. We must just wait and see! Gaiters were good - sticks recommended. No stiles.
Approx. 3 hours prior to lunch and 2 hours afterwards back to the cars.
